Mimicry
In the animal world, wearing camouflage, also called mimicry, is a normal state. The mysterious strangeness of a creature, like those that appear in the color magic of Koneva’s butterflies, becomes a poetic exploration of living beings that require a complete metamorphosis to develop.
Koneva playfully plumbs these creatures. By recycling materials – like flaked-off paint, chipped plaster, fissures, and the structures of doors or walls – she creates a microcosm of color patterns. Nature always adapts; people must do the same.
