The artist was born in St. Petersburg and has lived in Berlin since 1996. Influences from Eastern and Western European cultures mix in her works. She plays with contemporary and traditional ways of thinking in a complex web of associations. In these spaces of imagination, the boundaries between the magical and the grotesque blur. That the viewer is nonplussed by her irony and humor is intentional.
Aleksandra Koneva works with a broad palette of techniques, whereby the conceptual implementation is carried out in series that offer a striking title and additional levels of interpretation. Reflections on her own identity are a central theme of her work.
